Many of these games have their own character rigs, and many of these games provide their own retention animation systems.
Today, the animations in ROBLOX are more and more driven by developers, who create imaginative and creative games. At the time, it was not optional to have 2 rigs in some worlds. R15 formed the backbone of our game and animations, while R6 was designed to be compatible with old worlds without giving out animations. In designing R15, we decided on two rigs, R6 and R15. Virtual worlds like Club Penguin Island were getting worse, and social platforms like Snap#e just coming into existence. At the time, R15 was a new concept, and typically was only used in well scripted worlds. Last year, Erik Cassel, John Shedletsky, Matt Dusek and I designed the ROBLOX R15 rig. I want to explain our reasoning here, and also share details of the process we will go through with this migration. While many of you will welcome this change, I know that many of you will be concerned. This is one of the biggest changes we have ever made to our platform. In the next 30 days, ROBLOX will discontinue R6.
